MONDI/26: Spacecannon’s lighting at Milan Design Week 2026
Conceived as an immersive journey through textiles, architecture, and sensory perception, MONDI/26 has transformed the spaces of the Protestant Church in Milan into a fluid narrative, crafted through micro-architectures, materials, surfaces, and light.
During Milan Design Week 2026, the project designed by Palomba Serafini Associati for Alessandro Bini guided visitors through an installation in which the new Trame di Vita collection interacted with the sacred atmosphere of the existing space. The nave, the garden, the textile textures and the furnishings came together to create an intimate and contemporary exhibition landscape, where every element contributed to a harmonious vision of living.
Spacecannon’s contribution added depth to this experience through carefully calibrated lighting design, conceived to enhance the materials without overpowering them. The lighting became part of the narrative: a discreet, warm and precise presence, guiding the eye and lending the spaces an atmospheric quality that is consistent with the project’s concept.
Light as a design element
In MONDI/26, the lighting served more than just a technical purpose. It created rhythm, depth and continuity between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Inside the church, Spacecannon installed 15W FLARE spotlights with a 15-degree narrow beam angle, mounted on a track system. The lighting was used from above and below to illuminate fabrics and travertine sculptures, creating a subtle balance between highlights, shadows and textural details.
The chosen colour temperature, 3000K with a minimum CRI of 90, allowed the shades of the illuminated surfaces to be rendered with precision, whilst maintaining a soft and natural atmosphere. An essential choice in a project where colour, texture and the perception of materials played a central role.
A garden transformed into an evening landscape
Outside, Spacecannon’s work extended the narrative beyond the nave, transforming the garden into a luminous extension of the installation.
The tall trees were illuminated with DMX-controlled eCOLOR40 RGBW spotlights, programmed with shades of yellow, gold and orange. The slow-changing hues guided visitors from the entrance towards the church, creating a warm and immersive visual transition.
The side and façade of the church were illuminated with eCOLOR-LINE gen2 LED bars and Rainbow I, controlled in conjunction with the garden spotlights to give continuity to the chromatic movement. The result was a cohesive evening landscape, in which design, nature and architecture came together seamlessly.
A precisely designed façade
One of the most delicate aspects of the project involved the white lighting of the church façade.
Using the EYE 200 projector and meticulous mapping, Spacecannon highlighted only the architectural details in high and low relief. The lighting restored clarity to the surface without causing glare for visitors, maintaining an elegant and controlled effect.
This choice encapsulates the project’s approach: not to illuminate everything, but to illuminate what is needed. Light thus becomes a tool for interpreting the space, capable of bringing out architectural details with restraint and precision.
Continuity between interior and exterior
The garden’s lighting design was completed with eWHITE 4 and PIN spotlights featuring wide-angle optics and a colour temperature of 3000K. These luminaires were used to illuminate bushes, walkways and open seating areas, creating continuity with the lighting of the fabrics inside the church.
The decision to maintain a consistent colour temperature has helped to unify the exhibition route, avoiding overly stark contrasts between the different areas. The outdoor spaces have become an integral part of the experience, rather than mere passageways.
In MONDI/26, Spacecannon has worked with light as a design language: an invisible medium capable of guiding perception, enhancing surfaces and creating atmosphere.
