Cycle with the Wolves 2026: Monza Park is transformed into a forest of light with Spacecannon

Monza, Italy

In 2026, Spacecannon was once again commissioned to provide the lighting for the cycle route in Monza Park for the ‘Pedala coi Lupi’ event.

This time, the organisers wanted to create a real adventure for the participants, prompting Spacecannon to devise innovative effects along the entire route. The result is a narrative light display, in which the light does not merely decorate but guides, accompanies and surprises the cyclists stage by stage.

The project combined lighting design, animated projections and temporary light installations with a specific aim: to transform Monza Park into an immersive, cohesive and recognisable environment, capable of lending rhythm and atmosphere to the entire event.

A path of light conceived as an adventure

The project for Pedala coi Lupi did not focus on a single point, but was spread across the entire circuit. Each location was given its own bespoke solution, with different effects, colours and projections, so as to avoid any sense of repetition and keep the element of surprise alive at every turn.

This choice has made it possible to create a truly dramatic use of lighting: the light accompanies the cyclist, guides their direction, complements their movement and culminates in a spectacular finale. A story told through images that explores the theme of the wolf and the forest, the central theme of the entire festival.

The Parabolica: the red wave and the wolf’s paws

Along the Parabolica, the historic bend on the old Monza high-speed circuit, Spacecannon installed a series of eCOLOR40 units that projected a moving red wave onto the tarmac, guiding cyclists around the bend.

To this end, four Black Devil Easy spotlights were used to project the image of a wolf’s paws, indicating the direction to follow. An immediate visual cue, consistent with the theme, which combines function with set design: the light serves as a guide and, at the same time, a narrative element.

The avenue of lime trees: over 100 metres of iridescent effects

Along the avenue of lime trees, Spacecannon has created a light installation over 100 metres long, casting iridescent effects onto the trunks and leaves of the trees.

Two swirls of light were projected onto this multicoloured carpet, inviting cyclists to ride through them and creating an evocative luminous passageway. The effect transformed a straight stretch of the route into an immersive environment, in which the vegetation itself became part of the installation.

Colours from a distance and themed installations

At other points along the route, two Rainbow III units with ‘autoshow’ features were used to project colours onto the fir trees and musicians, who provided live musical accompaniment as the cyclists passed by.

In two other installations, a number of eCOLOR40 were used to illuminate semi-transparent inflatable tubes shaped like stacked logs, enhancing the woodland atmosphere of the trail.

The Enchanted Forest: the spectacular finale

One of the most striking effects was achieved in the final section of the circuit, where Spacecannon recreated a veritable enchanted forest.

The eCOLOR40 bathed the leaves of the trees and the bushes in blue light, whilst the Black Devil 300 projected a cloud of golden shooting stars. The contrast between the night-time blue and the moving gold created the most magical and recognisable moment of the entire route – a finale that truly left its mark.

Spectacular effects with reduced power

One of the most significant technical challenges concerned the power supply. At each Spacecannon station, the system had to operate at reduced power, as the electricity was supplied by small generators with a maximum capacity of 2.5 kW per station.

Despite this constraint, Spacecannon has demonstrated that even with limited power available, it is possible to create spectacular lighting effects. This proves that experience, design and the careful selection of projectors can overcome technical limitations without compromising on the visual impact.

From conception to dismantling

Spacecannon managed the entire project independently, from the design of the lighting effects and the programming of the scenes, through to the installation, operation using low-power generators, and the final collection of the projectors.

This comprehensive oversight of the operational stages has ensured consistency between the concept, the technical execution and the final result, guaranteeing a lighting experience that is uniform in quality yet varied in the emotions it evokes at each stage.
