The Pantheon: Solid Light Festival 2019

Rome, Italy

The Pantheon is a Roman temple, now a Catholic church in Rome, Italy, on the site of an earlier temple commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus. Pantheon is cylindrical with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns. A rectangular vestibule links the porch to the rotunda, which is under a coffered concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) to the sky. Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon’s dome is still the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome.

For the Solid Light festival 2019, Spacecannon was entrusted to create an ambitious effect: generating a powerful beam of white light coming out from the Oculus installing the searchlights inside the church. For this delicate and prestigious project Spacecannon used 4 xenon searchlights IREOS 7000W on the perimeter and for the central beam 6 LED searchlights TOWER.

The mixture of Xenon and LED technology allowed to produce a powerful light beam reducing the weight of the installed projectors on the weak marble floor.

A mixture of LED floodlights Rainbow III and eCOLOR40 with RGBW technology controlled with DMX512 were used to illuminate the portico with a pulsing cold white light
